Dr. Nikos Mattheos is a globally recognized expert in Implant Dentistry and Dental Education, currently serving as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He also holds affiliations with the Karolinska Institute and Malmö University, Sweden. His academic career includes leadership roles such as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong, where he directed the Implant Dentistry Clinic and postgraduate programs, and Associate Professor of Periodontology at Griffith University, Australia. Dr. Mattheos received his PhD from the University of Malmö, Sweden, and specialist training in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry in Switzerland under the mentorship of Professor N.P. Lang. He is an accredited Periodontist with the European Federation of Periodontology and has published over 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals. His research contributions have earned him several prestigious awards, including the International Association of Dental Research Award and the Andre Schroeder Award. A pioneer in the field of digital dental education, Dr. Mattheos designed and launched the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in Implant Dentistry, which has enrolled more than 60,000 learners globally. He continues to influence the field as Chair of the Education Committee of the ITI and through his editorial work as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Prosthodontics and as a member of various Implant Dentistry journal boards. In addition to his academic and research achievements, Dr. Mattheos is committed to advancing dental education through international collaboration. He has chaired European Consensus workshops on Implant Dentistry education and has played a key role in shaping dental curricula worldwide. He also maintains a private practice in Hong Kong, specializing in Oral Rehabilitation and Implant Dentistry.
Philippa Davis is the Director of Accreditation, Policy and Research for the Australian Dental Council (ADC). Philippa is responsible for the accreditation of education and training programs leading to registration as a dental practitioner in Australia. She has extensive experience in medical education and throughout her career has worked across a variety of health disciplines including general practice, nursing, paramedicine and surgery before moving to the ADC in January 2022. She is committed to ensuring health-care workers have the capability, knowledge and skills to provide exceptional patient care through the development of health policy and governance, research, standards and education programs.
